I’ve created this silly comic to help me simplify and demystify what it means to AWAKEN. I promise, this is not some hocus-pocus concept that can only be achieved by a highly evolved master. Life is meant to be a fun, lighthearted adventure, full of joy, love, and abundance. However, we must first awaken and discover our True Nature. Please give me a few minutes to explain.
Although I’m not a religious guy, I do understand what Jesus was trying to convey when he said, “I am in the Father and the Father is in me. These words I speak are not on my own authority, rather it is Spirit working through me.” [John 14:10] Being raised Catholic, I have heard this teaching many times at Sunday mass. Unfortunately, this quote is often taken out of context. In my opinion, the most important part of this message is what follows, “Whoever believes will do the work I’ve been doing and so much more.” This is huge! This was Jesus saying, you’ve got the power. I think this next quote is even more direct, “Don’t you know that you are God’s temple and God’s Spirit dwells within you?” [Corinthians 3:16]
Bottom line—awakening or becoming aware of our True Nature is not some New Age concept. Spiritual teachers have attempted to lead us on this path for thousands of years. Unlike the many parables and metaphors found in most Bible teachings, I feel this message was meant to be taken literally.
Maybe it would help if I first explain how I define God. I know God as my Life Force—the vibrating Energy that animates every cell in my body. And this Life Force is not only in me, but flows through all of Creation. This is what connects us all. I like to think of us as being cells in the Body of God. This thought helps me understand that I am in the Father and the Father is in me—literally.
Returning again to a water analogy—if God were the ocean, I believe at birth, a drop of this ocean water is deposited into each of us. Spirit embodies form. For those who are waiting for the Second Coming, this is it! Please don’t be offended. At times, people will angrily ask, so you really think you’re God?? I promise, this isn’t blasphemy. Is that ‘drop of water’ the ocean? Of course not. But it does represent the same elements and the same essence. Unfortunately, most of us are still sleepwalking—unaware of our Divine Nature.
So, what does it really mean to AWAKEN? It’s simply about becoming self-aware. If this is too woo-woo for you, I’d like to mix in a little science with my spirituality. Doctors say that sometime between 21-30 days after conception, a spark of life appears from nowhere. This is often referred to as a heartbeat, even though the fetal heart isn’t developed until after 8 weeks. Wow, that’s weird😉.
Here’s another fun fact. Have you ever heard anyone say that the human body is 99% empty space? When I first heard this, I thought it was ridiculous! I decided to go further down the rabbit hole to see what these scientists meant. I discovered this interesting explanation—if the nucleus of an atom was the size of a peanut, its outer shell would be the size of a baseball stadium. WOW! That’s a lot of empty space.
This space is not really empty. It’s actually filled with the invisible vibrating Energy field that I refer to as my Life Force. And with the invention of the high-powered microscope, scientists were also able to conclude that nothing is really solid. We are all made up of this vibrating Energy. Yes—science has been catching up with what the ancient yogis have been teaching for thousands of years. One of my favorite authors/teachers is Richard Rohr. I heard Richard say on a recent podcast that mankind was not ready for this message 2000 years ago—but maybe the time is now? Our consciousness has evolved, and science is helping explain it to the skeptical.
Why do I call this Energy my Life Force? Because we can’t survive without it. You don’t need to be religious or even spiritual to accept this. When Einstein discussed this subject, he is quoted to have said, “This is physics, not philosophy.” Call it what you will, but its existence is undeniable. Much like the skeptical fish in my comic, believe it or not—the TRUTH does not change. You can never be separate from your Source of Life.
Remove the skeptical fish from the water and see what happens. As he desperately flops on the shore, you can almost hear him say, “I believe, I believe!” Yes, in the end secrets will be revealed. On your deathbed, the veil will be lifted. The good news—you don’t need to wait for “the end” to learn death’s secret. You can learn to connect with your indwelling Spirit now and discover the joy of living an awakened life while you still have plenty of time left to play.
Although I’m optimistic in these turbulent times, I do feel a sense of urgency. We need more awakened beings on this planet NOW. When we become aware of our Divine Nature, we will also remember our oneness—our connection to each other and to the planet. This is when the magic begins. When we can see ourselves in the eyes of the 'others', the world will quickly become a better place.
